A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Eagle Pass station in Del Rio, Texas, was conducting line surveillance operations when he responded to a call from a Maverick County agent on May 9 about five undocumented immigrant children near Normandy.
After responding and finding the children, it was reported that they were three Honduran girls, ages 7, 3 and 2; as well as two Guatemalans boys, ages 5 and 11 months.
"It is heartbreaking to find such young children fending for themselves in the middle of nowhere," said Austin L. Skero II, chief patrol officer for the Del Rio sector, who added, "Unfortunately, this happens all too often now. If it weren't for our community and law enforcement partners, these girls could have faced temperatures of more than 100 degrees without help."
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) the children did not require medical attention and were transported to Uvalde Station for processing pending transfer to the custody of Health and Human Services.
