Mexicali returns to the national top of municipalities with the most active cases of the disease

After the incidence observed in Mexicali, the Secretariat of Health will visit this municipality to reduce it

Mexicali continues to show an unfavorable outlook in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, presenting upward trends in the most important indicators that allow this health crisis to continue.

In the last 24 hours, 60 new cases were registered in Baja California, 44 of which were reported in the state capital. In addition, of the 337 active cases, 228 are concentrated in Mexicali.

This figure returned Mexicali to the top 20 municipalities with the most active cases in Mexico, placing it in 17th place.

In addition to this, Mexicali is where the virus is being transmitted the fastest, having an Effective Reproduction Rate of 1.29, an indicator that at the state level is 1.06, which means that one person with COVID-19 can infect two more.

"Unfortunately Mexicali meets the trend in every way: more gross active cases, more incidence per 100,000 inhabitants, and higher effective reproduction rate. This is the perfect scenario for it to be the trigger for our third wave in Baja California," said this morning the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico.

After the incidence observed in that locality, the Secretary mentioned that the agency will visit that municipality to reduce it. "We have to do something in Mexicali, reduce the capacity, reduce the agglomeration, because they continue to rise," he added.
