First case of Brazilian variant confirmed in Guanajuato

The mutation originated in Brazil is known to be one of the most contagious, dangerous and resistant to the vaccine against COVID-19.

The Secretariat of Health of Guanajuato diagnosed the first case of the COVID-19 mutation discovered in Brazil this Thursday , specifically in the town of Valle de Santiago, where unfortunately the carrier of the strain died of the disease.

Another 9 deaths have also been reported in the city where the strain was detected, but at the state level, the entity already has 41 cases of different SARS Cov-2 virus mutations, 13 of them correspond to the so-called Californian strain and 2 to the one discovered in the United Kingdom, while the rest of the variants identified have not yet received specific nomenclature, according to the 13th Extraordinary Meeting of the State Health Security Committee (CESSA).

The municipalities where the strains have been detected are Acambaro, Guanajuato (capital), Irapuato, Leon, Moroleon, Penjamo, Romita, Salamanca, San Felipe, Juventino Rosas and Villagran.

Of the total number of cases registered with COVID-19 variants, 9 people have died due to complications derived from the disease, 29 are under treatment, one remains in serious condition and for two more there is no information about their health status.

At the national level, Guanajuato ranks third on the list with the highest number of infected persons under treatment reported to date, accumulating 5.3% of the 25 thousand active cases reported in Mexico.

In spite of its situation, vaccination in the state is one of the most advanced, since the government has been in charge of covering the 46 municipalities that confirm it with at least one anti-COVID dose directed to health personnel or adults over 60 years of age, although this progress also poses a risk for the population due to the relaxation of sanitary measures that the region is having.

For this reason, health authorities called the population to pay attention to the sanitary restrictions, now more than ever, due to the presence of the so-called Brazilian strain in the state.
