One of the indicators considered in Mexico for a state to change its coloration in the COVID-19 epidemiological traffic light chart is hospital occupancy, reason why the federal government placed Baja California in orange traffic light this week, however, the state opted to remain under the red traffic light.

"For the federal government we are in orange with a tendency more towards yellow than red, however, as a strategy we are going to continue under the red traffic light," said the head of the Baja California Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, this morning.

According to the Secretary's report, this Saturday the hospital occupancy rate in the state is 49.90% since 141 patients were intubated and 404 people were hospitalized due to COVID-19 in the different hospitals. At the same time, 485 beds and 173 ventilators are available at the state level.

"Right now we are not yet in conditions to transition to an orange traffic light because we want this curve to stabilize, we want the curve of hospitalized patients, of patients on ventilators to continue to fall; and most importantly, we want to stabilize the curve of the active patients we are having," he mentioned.

Currently, the number of times that the virus is reproducing in the region is 0.76, which means that one person with coronavirus infects only one more person, indicating this as favorable since it is advisable to be below one.

However, there are one thousand 309 active cases as of yesterday, 584 of which are located in Tijuana, 368 in Mexicali, 187 in Ensenada, 71 in San Quintin, 42 in Rosarito, 31 in Tecate and 26 in San Felipe.
