Tony Tee's New Year's Eve party picks for Tijuana, San Diego and L.A.

Last minute ideas to ring in 2015

It's that wonderful time of the year again. The time to remind us of our broken promises to go to the gym five times a week, to eat healthy and to be a overall better person have ended but we somehow think 2015 can be different and look to finally fulfill them. Like your shabby 2014 resolutions, your vacation plans have subsided to a dull ''I don't know yet'' when asked about plans for New Years Eve (NYE) so you are not going out of town and still didn't plan anything locally. Fear not border babies, I have arranged a little list of things to do in our around the border to meet most budgets.

Tijuana

The residents of this city of sin have long traditions of staying at home or going with friends or family to have home cooked meals and drinks. As a ex party promotor I can tell you, NYE is not the best night to promote a show or put together a fiesta. However, downtown TJ has more than a few things going on and could be an interesting option for ringing in the new year or going out on the town after your family dinners.

I would check out these two fiestas in downtown Tijuana and you can probably check them both out since they are are near the usual places to drink on sexta to bar hop. So try…

    La Mezcalera

Now a tradition, this no-cover NYE party has three areas including a smoking patio. Dj's Ivy Santana and Andy B cool inside the Mija, Das Falco + Dj Jesus ''Wero'' Lopez in the patio and a cocktail, champagne and Mezcal toast and 2015 countdown that begins at 1150 pm at the front bar. No cover and right in downtown are the plus parts of this party but it might be very packed so arrive early.

B-Side NYE @ Index Open Studio

Index Open Studio is shared working space in an alley behind Samborn's on Calle Ocho and Revolution St in downtown Tijuana. This is a house party with some of Tijuana's house music dj's like Alain D Seracho, Dj Wero and club neon graduates Girls all Around. The space is super cool and should make a for cozy party, intimate party. There is no cover and it is walking distance from all shenanigans in downtown, I would look for this party to get popping after midnight.

San Diego

SD has a lot of overpriced crappy parties in ballrooms and douchey clubs. I am going to recommend two things, though there are many fun options all over town to shine some light and prove SD isn't a complete bro fest.

NYE 2015 Pre Party @ Común

Famed San Diego chef and well known Baja lover Chad White´s new downtown restaurant is hosting a pre game for NYE with a four course Street Chic style that includes "adobada style" meat and something call Tijuana Ball Drop Punch toast, not sure what it is but it´s only $35.00 for food from SD´s most famed chef's right now. Perfect pre game for my late night San Diego recommendation. Reservations are needed.

A New Year of Love by Lovelife @ Palomar Hotel

Different areas of music, plus German Techno Diva Tini, San Diego favorites like Halo and Mark E Quark + many other dj's, this show is at the swanky Palomar hotel in the gaslamp quarter. These sexy techno and house dj's can make you dance in the new year. Price is about $65 dollars per person and includes a very decadent after party (in a good way) that begins at 5 am in the Analog bar on fifth. This party guarantees you won't sleep until well into 2015.

    Los Angeles/Rhonda

A club Called Rhonda is LA's premiere fashion and dance event. Hosted by Drag Queens, frequented by hipsters, dj'ed by some the worlds most critically acclaimed dj's and loved by all, Rhonda takes over the The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles ( yes, the whole hotel) for Rhondapolis. The event is four rooms of party areas that include performances by Hot Chip (dj set), Derrik May, Etienne De Crecy and Peanut Butter Wolf + many more. The nearly $200 dollar cover charge does include all drinks and gratuities. Look to rent a room, it's a better deal. This party goes all night and well into the morning, this might be the best party in SoCal for NYE.

No matter what you do and where you go, don't drink and drive and instead Taxi or Uber whenever you need to go. There will be drunk driving checkpoints on both sides of the border so be careful, nothing is worse than spending the first day of the year in jail.
