TIJUANA - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles defeated recently promoted side Leones Negros 1-0 on Saturday night to win third place in the preseason friendly tournament Copa Tijuana. Second division affiliate Dorados of Sinaloa ended up winning the tournament with their 2-0 win over Defensa y Justicia.
Venezuelan managaer Cesar Farias sent out an alternative lineup for the Xolos to test out some of his reserve players. Cirilo Saucedo in goal was about the only for sure starter on the field.
The starting lineup for Tijuana on the night was: Cirilo Saucedo, Juan Carlos Núñez, Elio Castro, Oliver Ortíz, Alejandro Molina; Joe Corona, Alejandro Guido y Fernando Arce; Paul Arriola, Alberto García and Henry Martin.
Leones Negros who are the newly promoted team to Mexico's first division might all be a little to eager to start, the Guadalajara based team were shown two reds cards on the night for harsh tackles on Club Tijuana players.
Luis Chavez scored the lone goal of the match in the with a missile of a shot into the top corner late in the game in the 84th minute of play.
Club Tijuana will keep working and next Saturday they'll be back in action against fellow Liga MX side Cruz Azul. The match will take place in San Diego's Petco Park in the yearly summer preseason event San Diego Clasico. Club America takes on second divsion affiliate Dorados that same night.
