MONTERREY - Only days after crashing out of the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL), Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente face another difficult task as they visit Tigres UANL in week 15 action of the Clausura 2014 season of LIGA Bancomer MX.
Tigres UANL vs Tijuana Xolos is scheduled for Saturday April 12th at 7:00pm local time (5:00pm pacific) from the Estadio Universitario "Volcan" in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The game will be broadcast live in the United States on Univision Deportes Network.
Both teams need to the win in order to keep their playoff bids alive. The Xolos are currently just inside of the playoff picture in 7th place with 20 points and need the three points to stay inside of the top eight. The home side Tigres is in 13th place with 17 points and whats to sneak into the playoff zone by the end of the season. With only three games remaining in the Clausura 2014 season, every game is now must win for both.
The Xoloitzcuintles will have to quickly put the the CCL elimination behind them. It was only Wednesday night when the Xolos failed to maintain a 1-0
lead the had achieved at home against Cruz Azul. That match was also stained with Xolos players and coaching staff participating in a shameful post match brawl.
In order to make the playoffs Tijuana will have to break through that negative cloud hanging over their heads that says they haven't been able to win a league game on the road since January 2013. Two of the remaining three games for the Xolos will be outside of the Estadio Caliente; and the one home game remaining will be against Leon who could also be fighting a life-or-death fight for their playoff ticket.
The big challenge for the visitors on Saturday night will be how to cope with life without central midfielder Cristian Pellerano. Pellerano suffered a torn muscle in last Friday's 3-1 win over Toluca. Pellerano missed the midweek CCL match and could be out the rest of the season.
The bright light for the Aztec Dogs is that Argentine striker Dario Benedetto is looking more and more dangerous game after game. He is scoring important goals and creating dangerous plays all over the field. Xolos just need to hope Benedetto stays healthy and avoids those lingering injuries that came with him from Argentina.
