Last year I was asked to help organize a Micro brew fest in the heart of downtown Tijuana.
The event was put together by the association on Baja California Micro Brewers. I didnt even know such a thing existed. Yes, we have heard plenty of what going on in Baja concerning one of my favorite things on this planet, beer.
Apparently, Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali are staring to mirror what going on in San Diego, CA. San Diego is home to some of the best micro brews in the world. The scene is amazing and expanding. With so much good beer in San Diego, Baja Californianos crossed the border and investigated what was going on. The proximity to San Diego and thus proximity to the basic ingredients that go into beer have made Baja California the leader of all Mexico when it comes to Craft Beers. In fact, the state now boats some fifty plus brewers and many brands are serious business and even expanding to the US.
The association was formed and its purpose is to expand the craft beer culture in the state and all of Mexico. There was a need to throw these beer festivals so many of the smaller brewers could sell their product. The association now throws 4 events per year, Tijuana being the most important.
This is a special beer fest, what sets it apart from other lame beer fest in the city is the most important detail concerning this labor of love brewers have. This beer fest promotes everything 100% local. Over 40 brewers all from Baja. The food garden has some of the most famous and decorated establishments in the city. The music is also 100% local Tijuana bands, independent and upcoming.
The dates are July 19th and 20th in the heart of Revolution ave, right in front of jai alai. The cost is about 10 dollars per person and goes from 2pm 2am both Friday and Saturday.
