Baja California’s Tourism Revolution: A Top Global Destination with Historic Success

Baja California is set to make international tourism history by becoming the host of Tianguis Turístico 2025 and the Caribbean Series.

Baja California has emerged as a leading force in tourism both in Mexico and globally, stated the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, during the Third Government Report presented to the State Congress’ Tourism and Investment Commission. The official also emphasized the historic achievements made under the visionary leadership of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

Over the past three years, the state’s tourism sector has been intensively developed, positioning Baja California as the venue for Tianguis Turístico México 2025, Latin America’s most important tourism event. Additionally, the state will once again host the Caribbean Series, reaffirming its ability to organize large-scale events. The recovery and expansion of international flights, including new connections with Asia and strategic markets such as Las Vegas, NV, and Phoenix, AZ, have also been crucial steps forward.

Regarding social tourism, the "Corazones Viajeros" program benefited more than 12,000 people in the past three years and was named a finalist for the ISTO Awards 2024 for its commitment to inclusive tourism. Moreover, the "Apoyos para la Inclusión Productiva y Sustentable" program supported 33 projects through a 2.9 million peso investment, primarily benefiting women and indigenous communities.

Baja California also welcomed 28.2 million visitors, generating 19.816 billion pesos for the state’s economy. Some of the key figures from the report include: a 51.91% hotel occupancy rate, 70.43 million border crossings, and 4.05 million CBX and 1 million cruise passengers. The state also contributed 69.966 billion pesos to the National Tourism GDP, ranking 7th in the nation for highest contribution, and recorded 148.2 million dollars in Direct Foreign Tourism Investment, securing 3rd place in Mexico.

The Secretary also highlighted progress in several areas, including Planning, Training, Tourism Promotion, Romance Tourism, Health and Well-Being Tourism, and Private Investment. Finally, he expressed gratitude to Governor Marina del Pilar for her support and reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with various industries to strengthen tourism in Baja California and benefit all communities.
