The municipal president-elect of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño, had the honor of throwing the first pitch at the San Diego Padres game against the Chicago White Sox, which took place at Petco Park in California.
This took place in the midst of National Heritage Hispanic Month celebrations, which are being organized by San Diego and functions as a reminder of the importance that sports has for the administration of the upcoming mayor of Tijuana.
During his electoral campaign, Burgueño reiterated several times that he is a fan of sports as he sees it as a way to keep young people away from organized crime, which is why it will be a priority issue addressed by his government.
Sports as part of Comprehensive Development
A few days ago, Ismael Burgueño met with Antonio Cano, Managing Director of the Tijuana Toros baseball team and Andrés Gómez, Finance Manager, in a meeting where they highlighted the importance of sports as a fundamental issue for comprehensive development, family unity, and living with other communities.

"It is essential to offer spaces and opportunities for our children and teenagers so that they can get involved in sports activities. We want sports to be a way for them to develop personally and communally."
Burgueño also underscored his intention to provide support to local athletes that are looking to compete nationally and internationally, while also stating that he is ready to coordinate efforts with the Tijuana Toros team to promote baseball as a pillar of local sports.
