The Ensenada-San Diego ferry promises to be a fast, safe, and comfortable transportation method to cross the border, benefiting both tourists and locals.
This project by private transport enterprise Azteca Ferries will have capacity for 300 people and it’s presenting itself as an efficient option to travel between both destinations.
However, despite the fact that its website has added info about estimated departure times and some services on board, prices still haven't been set and ticket sales are still closed.
Asked when this ferry will be in operations, the head of the Secretariat of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Ángel Aguíñiga Rodríguez said to San Diego Red that the beginning of operations is contemplated for early 2025.
"This is a project that we are working together with the Secretariat of Economy and as I understand some issues are still being addressed regarding migration permits, that's what they are working on right now," he explained.
The Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection must approve this ship and the service so that it can finally begin operations.
Asked if the port of Ensenada has the necessary infrastructure to carry out this project efficiently, Aguíñiga Rodríguez said that it has already been anticipated.
I understand that yes, that part has been anticipated by the provider, by the company (...) we estimate that early next year it will begin operations regularly.
It should be noted that from the port of San Diego, the only active ferry services are to and from Coronado Island and Embarcadero at San Diego Bay. If you wish to learn more about this service, check out the following link: flagshipsd.com/cruises/flagship-ferry.
