The Congress of Baja California passed with 14 votes for, 6 against, and 1 abstention, the Trans Children Law, a significant event for activists and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

This bill will allow children and teenagers to modify their birth certificate according to their gender identity before turning 18.

This bill was submitted by Liam Díaz Ortega on August 16, 2023 and received wide support from several different sectors of society.

Michel Sánchez Allende, president of the Commission of Gender Equality, highlighted that the passage of this bill is a milestone in the fight for the recognition of children's sexual diversity and gender rights as this bill ensures the right that trans teenagers have to an identity.

The LGBTQ+ community celebrated the passage of this new law outside of the Congress of Baja California, highlighting the progress towards greater inclusion and diversity.

It should be noted that there are few states in Mexico that legally recognize gender identity in children and this decision taken in Baja California establishes a precedent in the protection and recognition for the rights of the trans community.
