In coordination with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, has revealed that the state has acquired two WASH sanitation and hygiene mobile units to benefit children and teenagers who are currently vulnerable.

The state governor explained that this donation was made due to an agreement established with UNICEF, whose goal is to guarantee the access of health sanitation services and water for children, teenagers, and families in the state, especially those who are vulnerable, as well as national and international immigrants.

She added that the two units have an approximate value of 1 million pesos each and will be used for extraordinary situations or emergencies, in order to cover basic sanitary and hygiene needs in populations that need it. These mobile stations are designed to guarantee access to sanitary health services in any place where they are needed.

For his part, the Secretary of the Interior of Baja California, Catalino Zavala Márquez, stated that the units are completely automatic and have wastewater and pressure pumps and water heaters. He underscored that these two vehicles will have both showers and bathrooms, and can be electrically connected so that they can function.

In addition, they include a board to change children’s clothes, assuring comfort and safety for its users. Marina del Pilar thanked UNICEF for this important donation that will significantly contribute to improve life conditions for people in emergency situations in Baja California. She also reaffirmed her commitment to work together with international organizations to guarantee the wellbeing and development of children and teenagers in the state.

Meanwhile, the Subsecretary of Migratory Affairs of Baja California, Minerva Espinoza Nolasco, highlighted that for the management of these stations, UNICEF trained staff of the state administration and municipal institutions at State Coordination of Civil Protection facilities, in order to provide them with the knowledge of how to take care of these units so that they last for a long time.

The state official highlighted the good will of UNICEF and, specifically Maki Kato, UNICEF representative in Mexico, and Fernando Becerra, head of the UNICEF office in Baja California, who recognized the willingness of the state government in promoting essential benefits for children.
