Marina del Pilar takes care of the needs of Isla de Cedros inhabitants

Currently, 142 homes are being built in the community for the families that need it the most

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, visited Isla Cedros as part of her work schedule; here she delivered direct social aid and free medical care to the population at large. She also ordered that the construction of 142 housing units for the most vulnerable inhabitants must continue.

As part of her schedule, the state governor led a Con El Corazón por Delante campaign in benefit of hundreds of Isla de Cedros families, an event where they were given Violet Cards, school packages, and equipment for students such as wheelchairs. More aid was delivered which were part of the activities of the Mobile Health Unit Centers managed by the Secretariat of Health of Baja California where people received a free consultation and medical tests such as mammograms and early detection of cataracts. In addition, people were vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza as a measure to take care of their health.

In her message to the community, Marina del Pilar stated that in 2023, 10 million pesos will be invested in education infrastructure for Isla de Cedros, which will have a direct and positive impact to benefit students, as they will be able to learn in better facilities with the equipment and furniture they need.

In addition, in coordination with the Government of Mexico represented in Baja California by Jesús Alejandro Ruiz Uribe, the governor supervised actions by both levels of government in the construction of 142 homes in order to give them to vulnerable families. This is a joint effort between the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT) and the National Commission of Housing (CONAVI).

“The government of Mexico is investing more than 60 million pesos and we are providing our materials and necessary machinery to provide these families with the housing that they need,” the governor highlighted. It should be noted that the main road in the island will also be restored with an investment of 10 million pesos.

Marina del Pilar also held a meeting with representatives of several fishermen organizations, so as to find out firsthand their needs and design a strategy that allows them to boost their economic activity and improve the quality of life of families who depend on fishing.
