Governor Marina del Pilar recognizes actions by Special Forces against violence in Baja California

During her press conference today, Marina del Pilar expressed special appreciation for the army for helping reestablish peace in the state

During today’s press conference, the governor recognized that, after the violent acts that took place on Friday August 12 and whose scale has been unprecedented in Baja California, the response by Special Forces in coordination with the National Guard has meant a direct response of federal support for Baja California. This has resulted in the arrest of the group leader responsible for these incidents, as well as five accomplices, in the city of Culiacan. This work was carried out in collaboration with Baja Californian authorities.

During the 39th edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar” that took place in Tijuana, Marina del Pilar expressed special appreciation for the government of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, since Baja California has had complete support from the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the National Guard (GN). These institutions played an important and essential role in the security council work meetings that took place in the afternoon of Friday, August 12 when the first incident occurred in Mexicali.

In addition, Ávila Olmeda highlighted how valuable the coordination between local authorities was, since the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSCBC) held dialogues and had at its disposal complete operations by municipal organizations, as well as the State’s Attorney General Office (FGE). FGE were able to carry out the intelligence-led actions that led to the arrest of the perpetrators.

"Baja Californians behaved stupendously, responsibly, and with complete support from security organizations, allowing them to work in the best way possible. The state, meanwhile, had complete and total coordination with the government of Mexico who gave us force and intelligence work support through the Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard,” the governor underscored, alongside the head of FGE, Ricardo Iván Carpio Sánchez, and the Secretary of Citizen Security of the State, General Gilberto Landeros Briseño.

Marina del Pilar added that the coordinated actions allowed the situation to be contained and also allowed them to carry out a thorough investigation to find out the perpetrators of organizing and planning these incidents. This is why she reaffirmed her commitment to support President López Obrador’s security policy as well as strengthen the coordination strategy with mayors and legislative and judicial branch representatives, and all citizens and residents who are interested in boosting the development of Baja California.
