Once more, Baja Californians are standing out when it comes to sports, especially after Tijuana native Brandon Moreno became UFC champion for a second time. This time, 23-year-old fighter Yazmín Jauregui, current Tijuana Playas resident, will have her UFC debut.
This will take place on Saturday, August 13 at 4 PM at Pechanga Arena in San Diego where she will face off against 20-year-old Brazilian Iasmin Lucindo, who has a greater record in their weight division category.
Jauregui stated in an interview that according to UFC she was born in the city of Guadalajara, but she has lived in Playas de Rosarito since she was 3 years old. According to her, she realized that she wanted to be a mixed marital arts fighter when she was 15 years old which is why she decided to move to Tijuana.
“Brandon Moreno was a fighter that worked with us for many years and to see everything he has accomplished… it gives us a thirst for victory, it makes us think that we are doing things right," she said.
It should be noted that this fight’s tickets can be purchased and their prices will range from $70 dollars to $1,000 dollars, depending on the seat. Something else to note is that Baja California will have another representative besides Yazmín.
In the light weight division category, Gabriel known as “Moggly” Benítez will try to win after losing two previous matches. The 34-year-old is a Tijuana native and will fight against American Charlie Ontiveros.
Baja Californians have two reasons to not miss the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It should also be noted that Jauregui has won 8 times in her matches, getting to six finals after several consecutive knockout victories on the first round.
