Baja Window to the South not only talks about the things that Baja California has to offer tourists, but also highlights the achievements that municipalities, local projects, and institutions have obtained, and such is the case with Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), Tijuana’s Cultural Center, which was a milestone for tourism in Baja California.

To talk about this, Dr. Vianka Santana, General Director of CECUT, was present. This institution is 40 years old this 2022 and due to this anniversary, 40 different activities will be carried out throughout the year.

The iconic IMAX dome, along with its other attractions, was founded in 1982. Its creation was a landmark in Tijuana’s entertainment and artistic development since, before it was built, there very few places to bolster this kind of activities. This is why the advent of CECUT along with its artistic and cultural exhibitions made such a difference; an example of this, is the art exhibition at El Cubo (The Cube), which has works of art from 145 artists from more than 14 different countries.

CECUT has more attractions than the IMAX dome such as an aquarium, the Museo de las Californias (Museum of the Californias), a botanic garden, and activities that will excite both kids and adults. The 40 anniversary activities will take place through all of 2022 since they are looking for Tijuana natives to celebrate all together these last four decades of CECUT. One of the most recent projects being worked on is “Soy Artista y el CECUT es mi Casa”, where people can share the moments and memories they have had in the center’s facilities that have left a mark on their lives.

It should be noted that Tijuana and San Diego have been named as World Design Capitals 2024. Vianka Santana stated that this achievement is thanks to the Home project, which was used to present both cities at the event where the award was given. The musical, cultural, and gastronomic richness of the region was all present as well, highlighting the cultural wealth of Tijuana and Baja California.
