San Luis Potosi: 51 people placed in confinement after detection of COVID-19 variants

Among the more than 10 mutations diagnosed in a group of 51 people, one of them was known as the "Mexican variant".

According to Miguel Angel Lutzow, head of the Secretariat of Health in the state of San Luis Potosi, a group of 51 people were placed in preventive isolation after 10 different mutations of the SARS Cov-2 virus were diagnosed among them.

Of these 51 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 36 are suspected to be the B.1.1.519 variant, the same number of patients who are confined in the metropolitan area of the capital. The official stressed that despite the number of mutations detected, none of them retains the category of "epidemiological interest".

The news was announced at a press conference, where it was specified that 3 cases of the B.1.1.223 variant have also been detected, 3 more of the B1 variant and one case each of the B.1.2, B.1.239, B.1.241, B.1.396, B.1.429, B.1.551 and B.1.396 variants have been diagnosed.

Regarding B.1.519, also called "Mexican strain", the World Health Organization (WHO) is still in the process of research to consider this COVID-19 mutation of "epidemiological interest" but this has not yet been officially confirmed. However, the Institute of Diagnosis and Epidemiological Reference (INDRE) revealed that the variant discovered in Mexico, also classified as B.1.222, was responsible for 80% of the cases of COVID-19 detected in the country in the last few months.

Countries such as the United States, Germany and Switzerland have also already confirmed the presence of this strain in their territories and reiterated that although no variant diagnosed has a high risk classification, the probability of the existence of any of them in the Mexican Republic increases after the discovery of the mentioned strains.

Currently, San Luis Potosi has a yellow epidemic light, which has led to the opening of establishments and non-essential activities such as gyms, party halls, among others. The state accumulates 62 thousand and 43 -19 infections and 5 thousand 143 deaths caused by the disease.
