U.S. Consulate denies that Mexicali is safe as claimed by candidate Marina del Pilar

The U.S. Consulate asks not to visit the municipality due to lack of security

Surely you know Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, because when you walk down the street most billboards display her face: photogenic and with an inspiring air, however, there are certain inconsistencies about the candidate for governor that have become quite evident to the citizens of Baja California.

For example, in a video Marina del Pilar assures that Mexicali is a safe city, that in fact, it is the safest in the State, and this would lead us to ask ourselves: how are the other municipalities, if Mexicali, which is the scene of a dispute between cartels, is the safest? something is wrong or they are lying to the citizens.

Even the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana issued a security alert on April 9 of this year, asking U.S. citizens not to visit Mexicali due to the violence and insecurity that have been registered in recent months: "Travelers should use extra caution when traveling in and around Mexicali, the Mexicali Valley[ ...] due to the possibility of increased violence between rival factions of the cartels," reads the statement.

The above, issued by official sources, is in striking contrast to what is stated by the Morena candidate for governor and current licensed municipal president of, precisely, Mexicali who claims in her releases and advertising campaigns, in which by the way she has spent heavily: "we are the safest city in Baja California with the reduction of the crime rate...".

According to Semanario Zeta, since February there have been a series of armed attacks by criminal organizations operating in the Mexicali Valley: in total, the State Attorney General's Office has opened eight files related to homicides and kidnappings and the municipality has registered a total of 50 homicides in the last three months.

Marina del Pilar has reiterated on several occasions that her priority is the poor, the question here is why, if the poor are her priority, she is the second gubernatorial candidate in Mexico who spends the most on Facebook advertising instead of investing it in the insecurity problems that afflict her own municipality, where the poor who are the most affected.

The polls position to the candidate of Morena as the favorite to become the Governor of the State, although there are people who have their doubts about the veracity of the polls, since Jorge Hank Rhon has a great citizen support. In any case, the results of the polls may be questioned, but there is no denying the deaths in Mexicali, the statement from the U.S. Embassy, the dispute between cartels, the thousands of pesos spent in advertising on Facebook and the many others on billboards, where Marina del Pilar is undoubtedly the favorite of the large advertising windows.
