The Secretary of Culture of Baja California, Pedro Ochoa Palacio, and the Secretary of Economy and Tourism, Ivette Casillas Rivera, announced the progress they have made in creating the Indigenous Cultural Tourism Route in the state.
This initiative seeks to take into account the native communities in issues related to tourism in order to position it as a competitive tourist power and to form part of the new international markets in this branch of the economy, and also to contribute to attracting foreign currency, explained the Secretary of Economy.
Among the actions that this agency has implemented for the creation of this route, is to provide hiking courses to the natives to exploit this sector among foreign visitors.
In addition, according to Ivette Casillas, a campaign has been launched among hotel owners in Tijuana and Ensenada to set up exhibitions to sell crafts from the region.
For his part, Pedro Ochoa mentioned that the Ministry of Culture is strengthening the identity of the communities with diverse festivals, meetings, editorial publications and promotion of reading in Triqui and the Mixteco region.
At the same time, he added that Baja California has been enriched in terms of indigenous uses and customs with the people who have arrived from entities such as Puebla and Oaxaca who have settle in the south of this region.
These actions were presented to the Commission for Social Development and Indigenous Affairs through a virtual session on October 27, derived from the Agreement presented by Deputy Carmen Leticia Hernandez Carmona on July 1 of this year, in the Ordinary Session of the XXIII State Constitutional Legislature.
