This morning the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, attended a ceremony held by 12 indigenous Mayan communities of Chiapas to ask Earth permission for the construction of the Mayan Train.
According to the communities, liquor, pozol, banana leaves, an entire chicken, and tortillas were offered to mother earth to have their approval in the construction of the Mayan Train, which will cross through five states of the country. The secretary for the sustainable development of the indigenous communities, Emilio Ramón Ramírez Gutiérrez said: "We have to ask the land for permission because we eat from it and we walk on it".
While the offerings were being buried, some members of the ethnic groups sang songs. The construction of the train began with this ceremony, which will pass through Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Yucatan and Campeche.
