CABORCA, SONORA.- Tijuana Zonkeys was able to get its first points of the 2014 season of the Basketball Circuit of the Pacific Coast (Cibacopa), by beating 97-86 the newcomers Caborca Mineros.
Trayvon Lathan was the leader of the border crew with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists, while Marcus Morrison and James Penny both helped with 16 units. For the local squad Justin Lee Watts scored 36 points and Sam Coleman 22.
Tijuana was always on top, starting with 9 unanswered points that grew to be an 18 point advantage before half time, Zonkeys was winning 53-43.
The local team tried to answer but at the end the difference between the two sides would end up in 11 points.
The second game of the Opening Series will be played on Saturday at 8PM in the same municipal gymnasium.
On other news, Hermosillo Rayos beat Nogales Fuerza Guinda 93-82, while Los Mochis Pioneros fell 74-87 against Guasave Frayles; Culiacan Caballeros could not beat Navolato Garra Cañera and ended up losing 82-73.
