TIJUANA, BC.- The 2014 squad of the Tijuana Zonkeys was introduced yesterday to the local media, and they will be playing the 2014 season of the Basketball Circuit of the Pacific Coast (Cibacopa in Spanish) for a good cause.
The squad and technical staff were introduced to the local media and the team also signed a deal with the local DIF in order to take low resources kids and those on orphanages to the games the team will be playing in the Auditorio Municipal de Tijuana.
Tijuana's First Lady and president of DIF, Elia Manjarrez de Astiazaran, was present during the act, accompanied by Benerice Almaraz, Vice Director of correlation from DIF; Zonkeys' General Manager, Mauricio Chavez; Nasser Millanes, Sports Director; Claudia Carrillo, Public Relationships; and Coach Angel Gonzalez.
Players Marcus Morrison, Trayvon Lathan, James Penny, Mugabe Thomas, Arim Solares, Joel Reynoso, Sergio Sánchez, and Gerardo Lira, where also present, while Luis "Chupa" Ramirez had personal affairs to attend and Omar Quintero will get to the border town soon.
The team is working hard to help the border community and will start its 2014 season on Friday, March 28th against the Caborca Mineros. With Ciudad Obregon Trigueros out of Cibacopa, the team will play a friendly game against Mexicali Bomberos on April 2nd in the Auditorio Municipal de Tijuana, while the first home series will be played on April 12th against current champions, Hermosillo Rayos.
