ROSARITO, BC.- With the solid idea of winning the 2014 championship of the Basketball Circuit of the Pacific Coast (Cibacopa in Spanish), Tijuana Zonkeys a champion before the start of the tournament, after winning the second edition of Copa Zonkeys by beating Circuito de Rosarito All-Star 98-84.
The tournament was played at the gym of the Unidad Deportiva Profesor Andres Luna Rodriguez in Rosarito Beach.
On Friday, San Diego Team Elite beat CR All-Star 82-79, to be the first finalists, followed by Zonkeys winning 108-96 against Inglewood Fellas.
The next day Tijuana looked for the championship by allowing those players who trained during 20 consecutive days to start; soon they were joined by the Americans, Mexicans and Nationals of the team, balancing the game into the border crew's favor.
The end result would give Zonkeys the championship 98-84. Trayvon Lathan was the Most Valuable Player of the final match, while student Carlos Gil from Rosarito was invited to be part of the Zonkeys U21 squad.
During the mini-basket games, Jesús "Chuchin" Castro was highlighted as one of the best players and a future talent for Zonkeys.
