Marina del Pilar promotes "Soy México" campaign to make registration of binational infants easier

This program's goal is to make the registration of children and seniors' birth certificates born in the US with Mexican parents much easier

The government led by Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda launched the 2024 "Soy México" campaign on August 15 in order to make the registration of Mexican-American children and seniors' birth certificates much easier, guaranteeing their identity in Baja California.

The campaign led by the Secretary of the Interior of Baja California, Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas, began in Tijuana and will be in force until September 30; in Mexicali, Tecate, Playas de Rosarito, and Ensenada, it will take place from October 1st to October 31st.

This is in order to get rid of bureaucratic barriers and costs that could make the registration of Mexican nationality for people born in the United States with Mexican parents much harder.

The director of the State Civil Registry, Elizabeth Márquez Saavedra, revealed that following the orders of Secretary Alfredo Álvarez, people interested will be assisted at the nearest Civil Registry office so they can fill out their application and submit their requirements.

He explained that the requirements are: legible US birth certificate, birth certificate from the Mexican father or mother, an official ID, and a certified CURP.

"Thanks to the cooperation between the federal government and the state government, through the NAPHSIS system, the costs of apostilles, translations, and certificates of no births will be waived off, which represents savings of between 1,953 and 4,500 pesos per person," he explained.

This measure is a reflection of the commitment that governor Marina del Pilar has to prioritize the well-being of the most vulnerable families in agreement with the vision of president Andrés Manuel López Obrador of guaranteeing a dignified life and social justice for all Mexicans, he said.

The Civil Registry Directorate of Baja California, in coordination with the Secretariat of Education and the municipalities, will work in the upcoming months to ensure that people of school age and in other vulnerable conditions can benefit from this campaign.
