Mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, adapts pedestrian bridge for bicycle use

More than 10,000 people use this bridge every month

The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, supervised the progress made to repair the Diego Rivera pedestrian bridge, which will also have rail installed for bicycle use.

During her visit to the area, the mayor recalled that it has been 50 years since this bridge, which is used to cross Vía Rápida Poniente and is next to the CREA and the General Hospital, had been repaired.

The mayor said no repairs had taken place at this bridge and it had become awkward for people to use it because some people relieved themselves or hid themselves there.

"We will have security, design, cleaning, and, above all, aesthetics, because bridges of this kind were giving us a very bad image, and that's why we are going to spend all of the money we have left on citizens," Caballero Ramírez said.

As she toured the area, the mayor said that this repair project has an investment of more than 1 and a half million pesos and 50% of this work is to install centering, reinforced steel, and casting.

The restoration of this bridge in Calle Diego Rivera, Zona Río, Downtown Delegation, is part of the 11 pedestrian and vehicular bridges with an investment of almost 130 million pesos that have been repaired. This also includes the El Chaparral bridge and the Macro Plaza bridge, which are already in the budget.

The mayor was accompanied by the head of the Secretariat of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA), Enrique Bautista Corona, and the director of Municipal Urban Infrastructure and Projects (DOIUM), Marco Antonio Campoy Arce, so they could explain all technical details.
