Participation of ambassador Graciela Gómez at Foro Interconectando Ciudades Inteligentes stands out

The diplomat reiterated the importance that these forums have for the future of communities

The city of Ensenada became the venue of Foro Internacional Interconectando Ciudades Inteligentes (International Forum Interconnecting Smart Cities) on Monday, February 19, which had the participation of local, national, and foreign experts.

The goal of this forum is to create lines of actions and strategies to create comprehensive plans that allow foundations to be laid for smart cities and make collaborations between regional urban agents easier, promoting the development of political tools and solutions for the 2024 Agenda.

At this forum, the participation and presence of ambassador Graciela Gómez García, who is in charge of the General Direction of Bonds with OSC of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, was the standout. She recognized the importance of this type of projects, in which they are looking to hear, socialize, and address these issues with businesspeople and adopt smart strategies in urban planning. These are crucial to improve quality of life among citizens, economic development, and the protection of the environment.

This forum addressed issues related to water, education, sustainability, mobility, urban planning, projects in development, among others.

"It is of vital importance for the present and the future of our communities. At the Chancellery, we are very committed in promoting initiatives that contribute to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda, of the new Habitat UN urban agenda, and the development of smart sustainable cities," Gómez García said.

The ambassador also said that urban governing plays a key role when making decisions that affect our communities. "It is essential to promote citizen participation mechanisms and to collaborate with different levels of government, organized civil society, and other relevant actors to guarantee an efficient and transparent urban management," she added.

Graciela Gómez, first woman to become Mexican ambassador in Qatar

Graciela Gómez García is a diplomat with more than 30 years of experience. She is currently in charge of the General Direction of Bonds with OSC of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs.

In 2019, she became the first woman to be an Ambassador of Mexico in Qatar. She was also a consul general assistant of Mexico in Boston for 6 years. Her professional career has led her to hold several positions in the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City and diplomatic positions in Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
