The government of Baja California began a school infrastructure supervision program in order to rule out any damages or risks that could put Mexicali’s students in danger, according to Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

The state governor highlighted the work by the staff of the Secretariat of Education and, specifically, the Institute of Physical Education Infrastructure of Baja California (INIFE), who have been deployed in 700 schools in Mexicali since Monday morning in order to thoroughly check them and make sure they are in conditions to receive students.

As such, Marina del Pilar said that after the analysis made by the State Committee of Emergencies, it was determined that it is possible for academic activities to resume in Mexicali on Tuesday, February 13. However, checkups on all school infrastructure will continue.

For his part, the Secretary of Education, Gerardo Arturo Solís Benavides, underscored that by instructions of Governor Marina del Pilar, an exhaustive analysis was made in each school by INIFE engineering experts in order to have a clear understanding of the earthquake's path. He underscored that after a review it was determined that schools don't show considerable damages that could put students at risk, however, proper checkups will continue.
