The Secretariat of Health of Baja California has provided prompt care, managing to save the lives of 10 patients

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, revealed that, thanks to the Red Código Infarto program, the Secretariat of Health of Baja California has provided prompt care, managing to save the lives of 10 patients that went through a myocardial infarction in the first month of 2024.

The state governor stressed the significance of this project whose goal is to eradicate the first cause of death in the state and highlighted the efforts by the Secretary of Health of Baja California, J. Adrián Medina Amarillas, to train doctors of several municipalities in the state to strengthen their knowledge on how to treat acute coronary syndrome.

Marina del Pilar underscored that Baja California has 12 assistance spots inside hospitals and health centers, called "Casa del Corazón", that allows patients of all municipalities to be treated, including a recently inaugurated one in Bahía de los Ángeles. As such, people with cardiovascular ailments or with suspicion of risk are assessed and treated in a way that allows them to prevent warning conditions and improve their prognosis.

For his part, Medina Amarillas underscored that since Red Código Infarto launched in the state 185 patients with acute coronary syndrome have been treated. He recalled that this ailment is the main cause of death nationwide, with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and stress being some of its main risk factors.

He explained that the protocol of Red Código Infarto allows them to immediately carry out the medical procedures and application of medication to open the arteries of patients who have had heart attacks. They subsequently receive a catheterization free of charge which, in the private sector, can cost up to 100,000 pesos.

During the most recent training where all sanitary jurisdictions participated, the following topics were updated: myocardial infarction diagnosis and electrocardiogram, thrombosis and arrhythmia, instructions and contraindications regarding pharmacological management, and percutaneous coronary interventions.

The state official pointed out that they also delivered boxes with medications for procedures within Red Código Infarto, with a cost of up to 90,000 pesos per jurisdiction.

We guarantee that every health center with this program will have the necessary supplies to save lives.
