Mayor Montserrat Caballero makes history! Tijuana's bank debt settlement is announced

The mayor said that Tijuana will be the first city to be free of debt after paying the total amount of 2.5 billion pesos

This morning, mayor Montserrat Caballero had a press conference at Casa de la Cultura facilities located in Colonia Altamira to announce that Tijuana has recovered its financial freedom. Accompanied by her entire cabinet, the mayor said that 2 years and 100 days after they took office, they managed to make the municipality of Tijuana the first one in the country to pay back its entire bank debt that amounted to 2.29 billion pesos.

"We leave behind that black Friday, on July 25, 2008, when Jorge Ramos Hernández indebted this municipality with more than 2,29 billion pesos that were going to be paid until 2040," the mayor said.

Today I want to share with all of Tijuana’s families that on January 10, 2024, we will stop being the most indebted municipality in the country above Hermosillo, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Zapopan”, she said.

In her speech, she recalled that in 2008, PAN party member Jorge Ramos alongside his neoliberal allies and accomplices in the municipality decided for everyone to pawn the future and indebt the city in which the president of Mexico promised, by believing in the 24th Municipal Administration, to build important projects that are currently being constructed.

Now, thanks to this government's savings, healthy finances, transparency when working, and above all, citizens' support who pay their property and property purchase taxes in time, alongside the 2021-2023 budgets, they were able to definitely pay of this inherited debt created by those who want people to forget and have attempted to fool others by putting on new colors to steal from the municipality again.

Now, "we are writing the history of Tijuana together," the mayor said in her special message, which was broadcasted live from Casa de la Cultura in Colonia Altamira.

"And if we are talking about history, we have the story of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with his social struggle always in favor of the poorest people, as well as Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum's, a mother who has dedicated her life to public service and who will be, without a doubt, the next President of Mexico," she said.

In her speech, the mayor spoke to Tijuana natives to assure them that she knows very well where she is going and to where she never wants to go back, because even though there may be different ways of thinking, most citizens want a fair, democratic, and egalitarian government so as to not repeat a past of corruption, privileges, and despair.

Montserrat Caballero also directed her message to the President of Mexico and claimed that this city that "keeps him in their heart" has fulfilled his order of not lying, not stealing, and not betraying as well as not going into debt.

Caballero Ramírez recalled that she has worked since October 1st, 2021 with a national, republican, and austere project that creates the necessary alternatives that allow for an ascending form of government hand in hand with people, that rebuilds trust and has made history once more.

It is said that if corruption is the worst disease inside a government, then transparency is the spinal part of the treatment, and mayor Montserrat Caballero claimed that since she took office two years ago she has served Tijuana natives with a 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana with solid foundations, issued from the Fourth Transformation, that provides an example of work, struggle, and a mother's efforts.
