The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, inaugurated the first stage of Parque Esperanto, surrounded by families and joy. This is the biggest recreational space in the region. During this inauguration, an athletic race, where hundreds of Tijuana natives including the governor and her family participated in order to benefit children with cancer, took place.

"This space that we are inaugurating today is the most beautiful view of Tijuana, which alongside with the Abelardo L. Rodríguez dam has more than 300 hectares. This is equal to 7 times the size of Parque Morelos," she stated.

The state governor highlighted the work of all areas involved for the development of the park and highlighted the work of the coordinator of Regeneration Projects of Public Spaces of Baja California, Carlos Torres Torres, who gathered together several public and private institutions to make the park a reality.

"We decided to call this park "Esperanto" because it represents hope, the hope that thousands of Tijuana and Baja Californian families have that we continue to build a better state of wellbeing", she said.

Marina del Pilar stated that thanks to a series of donations, 34,000 trees will be planted in this area, which in the short term will become the biggest lung in the entire state of Baja California.

For his part, Torres Torres underscored the collaboration between several civil and business organizations so that Esperanto could proceed to benefit the entire community, under the coordination of Governor Marina del Pilar.

Torres Torres thanked the collaboration between Consejo de Desarrollo de Tijuana and Tijuana Innovadora, citizen organizations represented by Luis Lutteroth and José Galicot, who have been essential in regenerating spaces to transform them into areas with social benefits.

"This is a place where families who have been having a hard week can come to and have special moments with their loved ones. That is what this project is about: having the biggest park in the history of Baja California."

On the other hand, he recognized the work by Fundación Castro-Limón that, throughout the years, has provided assistance to more than 300,000 children and saved the lives of 117 kids with cancer, giving them a better life.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign, Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, described the project as having lookouts, restrooms, children's playgrounds, a zip line, a parking lot, a walkway, among other attractions.

At this event the following people were present: Roberto Castro Torres, founder of Fundación Castro Limón; the Secretary of the Interior, Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas; the Secretary of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Mónica Vega Aguirre; the Secretary of Culture, Alma Delia Ábrego Ceballos, and the director of the Institute of Sustainable Urban Mobility, Jorge Alberto Gutiérrez Topete, among other special guests and members of the community.
