Governor Marina del Pilar inaugurates new connecting flights for Baja California

Marina del Pilar revealed information about the new routes and connections that will be available in our state

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, revealed that the state is consolidating itself as one of the destinations with the highest levels of connections in Mexico. This is due to two new airline routes from Viva Aerobus that will connect Tijuana with Oaxaca and Puebla, strengthening connections between the northwest, the southwest, and the center of the country in order to benefit tourism, commercial development, and business opportunities.

The state governor highlighted the investment of equipment that will provide greater safety and service quality to users, as both routes are operated by the youngest fleet in Mexico and fourth youngest in North America, consisting of 79 Airbus A320 and A321 airplanes with an average age of 5.2 years. In addition, she explained that the first flights took place during the weekend. As a convenience and for the comfort of all passengers, the Tijuana-Oaxaca route offers a daily flight, while the Tijuana-Puebla route occurs five times a week.

Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, the Secretary of Tourism, stated:

Tijuana, unique, creative, and multicultural city, is consolidating its position as an essential entry point in the region with the opening of two new flight routes. This progress, by Viva Aerobus, is part of the efforts by the Secretariat of Tourism of Baja California to make of the state a successful, competitive, and sustainable destination, enriched with connecting options and strengthening the virtues that the region has to offer to those who visit us.

In 2023, he highlighted the growth of Viva Aerobus in Baja California as, so far this year, five routes have been added to the state offering: four in Tijuana and one in Mexicali. In March, the Tijuana route to the new Mexico City Airport (AIFA) began operations. In June, Mexicali reopened flights to Monterrey. And now, the flights to Puebla and Oaxaca were inaugurated, with a Tijuana-Tulum flight that will be launched in December.

The Director of the Tijuana International Airport, Carlos Salgado de la Peña, stated:

We are working to make the Tijuana Airport into an essential space, keeping more than 1 million passengers on average per month. That's why, we celebrate the new connections that Viva is bringing to Tijuana, because now we have 40 national destinations and it is one of the airports with the biggest connections in Mexico. With the expansion of this platform, that is still ongoing, we will have the capacity to have even more flights.

Currently, the low-cost airline has 14 routes in Tijuana plus services in the capital of Baja California. In addition, the company explained that Tijuana is one of its 6 bases of operations, where more than 20 daily flights occur. They offer more than 4 million seats per year, becoming a natural ally when it comes to competitiveness and affordability in the city.

Juan Carlos Zuazua, general director of Viva Aerobus, stated:

We see great potential in the Tijuana market. We continue to connect this city with more destinations to address the needs of all kinds of passengers. Whether you travel for pleasure, business, or to visit your family members, you will find a partner who will provide you with a truly affordable option, with new airplanes, and the comfort of a direct trip.
