Marina del Pilar: Baja California leads states in highest industrial development

The constant dynamism and innovation of the industry in Baja California has made it the national leader in this sector

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda revealed that Baja California was the state that contributed the most to the industrial gross internal product of Mexico in the first semester of 2023 with 6.1%, taking into account numbers by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), duplicated by the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (CONCAMIN).

During the 99th edition of "Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar", the state governor highlighted that Baja California is strengthening itself as the leader of the industrial sector in the country, ranking even higher than Mexico City and other states that are important industrial areas.

"This is, without a doubt, good news and it shows the synergy that the state government has with the business and industrial sector when providing results. This results in wellbeing for our families and better wages for the working class of Baja California," she said.

In the sum of these first 6 months in 2023, the best performance regarding contributions of the industry to the national economy was Baja California with 6.1%, followed by Mexico City with 5.7%, Sonora with 4.1%, and Guanajuato with 2.5%.

On the other hand, Marina del Pilar announced the beginning of the Violet Protocol at work centers in the state in order to protect female workers from work violence and sexual harassment, through coordination between labor authorities and companies.

"We are guaranteeing, alongside the private sector, a safe environment for female workers in our state. All work centers must have a protocol to protect women to address cases of violence during their working hours," she said.

As such, the Secretary of Work and Social Welfare, Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, stated that the guiding principles of the protocol are active listening, confidentiality, respect, and to not revictimize victims. In addition, there are the public policies with a gendered perspective that are being promoted by the Marina del Pilar administration.

The state official added that since they took office, they have been working to develop more public policies with a gendered perspective in working environments, prioritizing the awareness of civil servants on the importance of respecting the rights of women and girls.

Arregui spoke about the installation of a Violet Window at the Center of Work Conciliation, where one can anonymously make a report and receive guidance about their rights regarding any circumstance. In addition, the WhatsApp number 686 193 18 10, where women can be assisted by professionals and channeled to the proper authorities, has been enabled.

Meanwhile the director of the Center for the Justice of Women, Magdalena Bautista, highlighted the importance that women report when they are victims of violence at work, which will be made easier through the Violet Protocol.

In addition, the governor invited young people to participate at the "Galardon X Las Juventudes", part of the Institute of Youth of Baja California, whose goal is to recognize outstanding young people in several different areas of public life.

The head of this institute, Francisco Molina, explained that the five awards of this competition are Science, Innovation and Technology, Powerful Women, Strengthening of Native People, Equal Rights for Everyone, and Political Science.

"In Baja California, we have a lot of talent in sports and culture; there are many outstanding young people. We have to encourage young people to register in this event," he said and also stated that young people between 12 and 29 years old will be able to participate and the awards will range from 5,000 to 20,000 pesos.
