One of the most common expenses by Mexican families is groceries (whether its weekly, biweekly, or monthly) as they have to buy the necessary products and foods.

Though this is unavoidable, it has become harder to do due to inflation causing prices to increase. This is why the Federal Consumer Agency (PROFECO) shares every week a list of the supermarkets with the highest and lowest prices in the country.

How much does it cost to purchase groceries in Tijuana?

According to data shared weekly by the head of PROFECO, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, in the northern zone of the country (Baja California, Coahuila, Sonora, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, and Nuevo Leon), specifically in Baja California, groceries can be bought the cheapest in Tijuana. These are sold at supermarket Soriana Híper, located in Plaza Río as it is offered at a total price of $874.90 pesos.

Which is the most expensive supermarket in Tijuana?

Using this same data, the most expensive supermarket in the state is also in Tijuana. This is the supermarket Ley, located at Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas and Calz. Tecnológico, as these same products are offered at a price of $1,016.65 pesos.

What is the basic basket?

According to PROFECO, the basic basket consists of 24 products, which must provide a family of 4 people during a period of 1 week. These products are the following:

2. Grains of rice 1 kg
3. Tuna flakes in oil (maximum 5% of soy) 2 cans of 140 g
