CBP will close the PedWest border crossing in Tijuana once again this Thursday

Starting on Thursday, CBP will once again completely close the PedWest border crossing, justifying their decision that there is an increase of immigrants that must be processed

Be careful when crossing the border! The San Ysidro Improvement Corporation (SYIC) revealed, through a statement issued by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), that the PedWest border crossing will be closed starting tomorrow Thursday, September 14.

According to authorities, this decision is due to their difficulty in processing immigrants which is why they need to concentrate on this issue by shutting down and closing the PedWest pedestrian border crossing in San Ysidro.

In addition, they have warned that if the flow of asylum seekers continues to increase, they will also be forced to close the pedestrian crossing at the Otay Mesa port of entry, a measure that SYIC has labeled as abusive for the community, claiming it is completely unacceptable.

This is why they have urged Mexican authorities to assist CBP and the SD Border Patrol so this does not occur, saying that they will not sit idly due to the "the political whim of a CBP official."

8 months after reopening, PedWest is closed once again

After being closed for almost 3 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PedWest border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego was opened once again on January 9, 2023.

Initially, its working hours were from 6 AM until 2 PM. It should be noted that it could only be used to enter into US territory; to come back to Mexico, one had to do it through another port of entry.

This port of entry was actually temporarily closed in April 2020, and later, the United States issued restrictions for non-essential travelers in the land border with Mexico due to the pandemic.

These measures were lifted in November 2021, but the land port of entry was closed for an additional year, which is why many were surprised that it was reopened 8 months ago.
