Alleged killer of woman found in Las Americas Premium Outlets is arrested at the San Ysidro port of entry

The alleged murderer of Leyva Oregel is her husband, Germán Luna, who was arrested at the San Ysidro port of entry

It seems that justice will be served at last for the murder of Leyva Oregel, a woman who was found dead in the early morning of July 4, 2024 at Las Americas Premium Outlets in San Ysidro, California.

San Diego County authorities stated that the victim's husband, Germán Armando Luna Salazar, was the prime suspect of this homicide. He was last seen leaving the mall on foot and it had been suspected that he had crossed into Tijuana, Mexico, on the pedestrian walkway.

In a statement, the San Diego Police Department confirmed the arrest of Germán Luna, who had attempted to cross through San Ysidro on August 19, 2023 at approximately 10:45 AM. He was arrested at the San Ysidro port of entry by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.

He was detained here until homicide detectives and officers of the San Diego Police Department arrived to handle his case. Subsequently, Salazar was sent to the San Diego county jail through a murder arrest warrant.

The San Diego Police Department thanked the Sheriff Department of Santa Barbara County, the Sheriff Department of San Luis Obispo County, and the Police Department of Guadalupe for their help in this investigation.

This is Germán Luna: main suspect of homicide who has been arrested

Germán Armando Luna Salazar is a 44-year-old Latino man.

He is 1.65 meters tall and weighs between 54 and 58 kilos.

He was the husband of Leyva and father of his two daughters, who are 14 and 7 years old.

He was arrested at the San Ysidro port of entry, confirming the police's main theory that after killing his wife he had crossed into Tijuana on foot.

A woman's murder and a case of domestic violence

The Medical Forensics Office of San Diego County confirmed that the woman had suffered severe trauma on her body's upper side and confirmed that she had been strangled to death.

Leyva Oregel had last been seen by her family on Saturday, July 1 when at 4 PM, she went with her husband, Germán Luna, to Paso Robles, California to clean some offices.

For the next few hours, Leyva did not make any contact with her family members and when they tried to call her, neither she nor her husband answered, which is why she was reported as missing to the Guadalupe Police Department, the community where she lived at.

Leyva had been reported as missing days before her murder.

In this missing person's report, it had been stated that the couple had been having problems recently and that Germán Luna had previously threatened his wife.

As such, domestic violence had been the main investigation line by American authorities. The exact motive of why Luna Salazar killed her wife has not been revealed.

Leyva was a family woman

Leyva Elizabeth Oregel García was 33 years old when she died. She was a Latino woman who lived in Guadalupe, California.

Her family members described her as a warm woman, a great mother, and a happy woman overall.

In her marriage with Germán, they had two daughters who are currently 14 and 7 years old. These two girls still have their maternal grandparents, Ernesto Oregel and Imelda Garcia, a maternal aunt, and a very close family network.

However, it is true that from their point of view their mother's life was taken away and the person who did it, allegedly, was their father who could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Right now, everything seems to indicate that justice will finally be served regarding the murder of Leyva, who is now resting in peace.
