Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, presents results of her work in the United States

Among the activities that stood out there were agreements, investments, and new alliances with New York and Washington D.C.

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, presented to citizens the results of the mission of the economic, cultural, touristic, and gastronomic promotion that recently took place in New York, Washington D.C. and Arlington in the United States, where important projects were shown in order to promote jobs and wellbeing for the state's families.

During the 89th edition of Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marian del Pilar which took place in Ensenada, the state governor thanked the government of Mexico led by President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador for their support during the activities that took place in the United States at the Mexican Consulate in New York and the Mexican Embassy, led by counsel Jorge Islas and ambassador Esteban Moctezuma.

"I also want to thank the ambassador of Mexico in the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, for accompanying us and designing this first-rate work schedule," the state governor said in her speech to Baja Californian media outlets.

Marina del Pilar pointed out that both New York and Washington D.C. are among the most important cities in the world, which is why it is essential to meet with entrepreneurs and organizations of these cities to promote the state. It also helped to have chefs, farmers, fishermen, and artists get closer to showing off their work in one of the main venues in the world.

Governor Marina del Pilar reiterated that this is the best moment to invest in Baja California, which is why it is very important to reach the most important forums in the world so that US investors and specialists discover the advantages and begin dialogues with the state government so that new projects, new jobs, and a better quality of life for people in the state can be carried out.

At this conference, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, was also present and he highlighted meetings with Tesla, General Motors, semiconductor companies, and the aerospace industry that were interested in the human capital of the state. They had a direct conversation with the deans of Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and CETYS Universidad, Luis Enrique Palafox and Fernando León, respectively.

Honold Morales emphasized the future of electromobility and pointed out the importance of the agreement that Governor Marina del Pilar signed with Amazon, which will allow artisans and representatives of micro, small, and medium-sized companies in Baja California to export their products through this digital platform with worldwide reach.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, stated that the goal of the Secretariat of Tourism was to position Baja Californian destinations in the eastern coast of the United States and, in that way, increase the average consumption of tourists in the region.

Among the main activities, the state official spoke about the Baja Californian show at Queens Night Market and the projection of a promotional video of the state in Times Square’s screens, which is estimated will be seen by at least 12 million people.

In addition, the Secretariat of Tourism held a series of meetings with hotel and international tourism industries to promote tourism activities in the Baja California and southern California mega region, as well as to promote more visits through the arrival of cruises at Ensenada ports and the announcement of a new flight between Phoenix, Arizona and Tijuana.

There is also the construction of two new hotels by Marriott International in 2024 in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali, which implies the consolidation of tourism activities, which represent 7% of the gross domestic product.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Fishing and Aquaculture, Alma Rosa García Juárez, highlighted the presence of producers in this line of work who, with their own resources, moved sea protein to show it off in the United States, which formalized new businesses between Baja California and the US eastern coast.

The secretary spoke about the several different activities that took place in the United States to promote gastronomy through the BajaMed cuisine concept which speaks about the quality of Baja Californian products.

Lastly, the Director of Public Relations and Binational Projects of the Secretariat of Culture, Ana Patricia Valay, representing Secretary Alma Delia Ábrego, presented results on this matter, where the highlights were the inauguration of Baja California Month at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington D.C. and art exhibitions by native indigenous people at Lincoln Center, as well as other high impact venues in this region of the United States.

She added that the most important proposals were the possibility of scholarships for creators in Baja California at the New York University through the Mexican Consulate, which could boost creative capability short, medium, and long term.
