Mayor Montserrat Caballero welcomed the Little League winning team that will compete at the World Series in Williamsport, USA. The mayor recognized that this triumph is the result of the efforts of these young cross-border baseball players and the coaches’ dedication.
This baseball team, consisting of 13 children and 3 coaches, went to the mayor’ meeting room, who encouraged them to keep up their pace because they are going to participate in the most important world tournament of their category.
She reminded them that in this life there is nothing that is impossible, in addition, that representing Tijuana is not easy. It is work and a very huge responsibility and as athletes they must know that “when they win, a lot of people applaud you, and when you lose, you lose alone”.
She underscored that when they win, everybody says “We won, it was a team effort and when they lose, a lot of people don’t support you besides your parents and coaches. It is a hard road but it creates a lot of emotion, a lot of prestige, and a lot of happiness,” the mayor said and then she asked the players randomly about how they felt.
The mayor recalled the support that parents give by making small sacrifices to get uniforms and everything that they use, as it is expensive. That is why, alongside the head of the Secretariat of Wellbeing, Gerardo López Montes and the head of the Municipal Institute of Sports (IMDET), Cecilio Hernández González, they donated 75,000 pesos, regardless of the results that they obtained because, for the mayor, athletes are already champions.
Jorge Gabriel, Marko Mejía, Maximiliano Leyva, Bernardo Partida, Alfredo Chacón, Jorge Cota, Mayolo Peña, Jamil Mandujano, Jorge Rubio, Arath Laborín, Santiago Hernández, Jorge Villa, Jonathan Juárez, and coaches Francisco Fimbres, Marcelo Santamaría, Fidel López are the members of this team.
