Municipal Administration of Tijuana closes down parking lot at Plaza Península due to irregularities

The parking lot was operating with an expired permit

In an official statement, it was revealed that the Municipal Agency of Inspection and Verification closed down the parking lot at Plaza Península and placed labels in all of it entrances and payment centers.

Authorities found out that they didn’t have the necessary documentation to carry out their operations; in addition, they had several physical irregularities.

By instructions of mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez and the Secretary of the Interior of Tijuana, Miguel Ángel Bujanda Ruiz, members of the Municipal Inspection and Verification Agency went to this mall on Monday to check the parking lot.

There, they requested the required documentation by the Municipal Government; those in charge of the area were not able to provide it, as they only had a provisional expired permit.

During the physical inspection of this building, some irregularities were detected such as exposed wire in several areas of the parking lot, construction material exposed to the public, and special waste accumulation such as wood floorings, glass, and metals.

A lack of high voltage signs, oil spills on the surface, shortage of fire extinguishers, and areas where extinguishers were supposed to be but weren’t, were also identified.

Another documented irregularity was the shortage of parking lot spaces for people with disabilities as the current law dictates.

As such, staff of the Inspection and Verification Agency closed down the parking lot, placing labels in its entrances and payment centers. In addition, an official report was filed.

With these actions, the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana reaffirms its commitment with the wellbeing of its people, while also urging establishments and commercial malls to follow municipal laws for the security of all Tijuana natives who visit them.
