Depeche Mode could be a musical genre by itself. If it had to be defined, one could say that they are a band that musically deals in all the tonalities and hues of darkness. They are a band full of nostalgia, sensuality, and tenderness, exposed through desperately erotic images.

Nobody nowadays embodies the Depeche Mode music live experience like Strangelove; their performance is not just an easy imitation or a pale revival, but a continuation. Strangelove: The Depeche Mode Experience brings to Tijuana the best of this British band’s music for the first time at the emblematic Tijuana iconic location: Cine Bujazán.

Considered in the 1950s as the most lavish and incredible cinema theater in northern Mexico, Cine Bujazán welcomed some of the most important celebrities back then. At its inauguration, on July 7, 1951, celebrities such as Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”, singer and actor Pedro Vargas, Miroslava Stern, Libertad Lamarque, Sofía Álvarez, Dolores del Río, and Jorge Mistral all came here as they were the stars of the movie “Deseada”, which was premiering at these facilities.

It was also the venue of the Corona Caravans that gathered the best of Mexican showbusiness such as José Alfredo Jiménez, Javier Solis, Los Panchos, Marco Antonio Muñiz, La Sonora Santanera; Viruta y Capulina, Los Polivoces, La Prieta Linda, el Charro Avitia, among others.

Back then, the venue had an attendance of 2,400 people that listened to musical poet Agustín Lara, who played the piano. In the 1970s, when the theater had been sold by the Bujazán family, the screening rooms were crowded by Tijuana cholos due to the performance by Rosie and the Originals.

After a fatal fire destroyed great part of this building’s infrastructure, Cine Bujazán became the ruins of a memorable age in Tijuana. As the years passed, it became a cultural spot. On August 25 it will go back to its former splendor thanks to the electronic rhythms of Strangelove: The Depeche Mode Experience.
