Governor Marina del Pilar presents progress on construction of the Otay II Port of Entry

Investments in Baja California have exceeded 13 billion pesos!

During a meeting with federal and municipal authorities, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, spoke about the progress registered on main infrastructure federal projects that are being built in the state, such as the Elevated Aqueduct, which will connect Playas de Tijuana with the “Abelardo L. Rodríguez” International Airport, the modernization of the 6 ports of entry in the state, repair work at Cañón del Matadero, and construction of the Otay II port of entry, all of which add up to a total investment of 13.7 billion pesos.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the willingness of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to strengthen Baja Californian mobility and infrastructure, prioritizing the needs of people living in the border who need not only functional cities, but also speedier crossings to the state of California, one of the world’s greatest economic powers.

In addition, she emphasized the creation of projects that are supervised and led by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), together with the Government of Baja California, the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana, and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT); together they are developing projects that will transform the lives of millions of people. Marina del Pilar highlighted that the border crossing between Tijuana and San Ysidro is the most important in the world.

On the other hand, the governor spoke about how the repair work of the landslides that occurred at Cañón del Matadero by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT) of Baja California are about to be concluded. It is estimated that this project will be delivered to the municipal administration of Tijuana this current month of June.

Regarding the construction of the Otay II port of entry, the governor pointed out that there are notable actions regarding this project, especially with the management carried out by the Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE) that is addressing energy issues and legal certainty around the areas where this new customs building will be built.

Regarding investments, Marina del Pilar explained that 10 billion pesos will be invested in the Elevated Viaduct in Tijuana, while 2.6 billion pesos will be invested in the construction of the Otay II port of entry. In addition, 1.293 billion pesos will be invested in the restoration of the Otay I port of entry; 538 million pesos in the Mexicali II port of entry; 73 million pesos will be invested in the Algodones port of entry in Mexicali; 72 million will be invested in Tecate, 93 million in the Mexicali I port of entry, and 104 million in the El Chaparral port of entry.

At this event, the following people were present: Cabinet Coordinator of Baja California, Alfredo Álvarez; Secretary of Economy of Baja California, Kurt Honold; Secretary of the Interior, Catalino Zavala; head of SIDURT, Arturo Espinoza; director of the State Commission of Public Utilities of Tijuana, Víctor Amador; director of Social Communication in Baja California, Néstor Cruz; and the director of the Institute of Sustainable Mobility, Jorge Gutiérrez.

Representing the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, the following people were present: Jesús Felipe Verdugo, Subsecretary of Infrastructure; Georgina Wilhelmy, director of the SICT Center in Baja California; Adrián Pedroza, legal director of the General Agency of Highways; Humberto Pacheco, legal counselor of the General Agency of Highways; Manuel Sainz of legal company OH Abogados, and Emiliano Portillo, also from this institution.

From the municipal administration of Tijuana, the following people were present: mayor Montserrat Caballero; Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Bujanda; major official, Marcelo de Jesús Machain; Secretary of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development, Juan Enrique Corona; and the legal municipal counsellor, Rodolfo Adame.

The following people were also present: General Víctor Aguirre of the Second Military Region; General Salvador Cervantes, General Francisco Zubia, General Raúl Manzano, Captain Fernando Aguado, and Captain Julio César Briones, who are in charge of carrying out infrastructure projects and create coordination of the civil authorities from the three levels of government.
