Infrastructure projects to address issues regarding the supply and treatment of water in the state’s coastal area, as well as projects led by the Secretariat for the Management, Sanitation, and Protection of Water (SEPROA) in the state, are being strengthened through binational dialogue, said Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California.

Marina del Pilar gave as an example that, among the projects, there is the development of alternate supply sources for all municipalities in the coastal area in order to build a more sustainable future for Baja Californian families which will ensure water for all people.

For his part, the head of SEPROA, José Armando Fernández Samaniego, participated in one of the speech panels at the binational event “Misión Comercial de Tecnologías del Agua en California”, (Commercial Mission of Water Technologies in California) where he explained the actions carried out by the state government to supply, treat, and distribute water.

At this forum, organized by the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI) together with the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, Fernández Samaniego shared in front of diplomatic representatives that Baja California is undergoing unprecedented events in this area, which is why routes have been established to strengthen the supply of water in homes and businesses of the region.

He pointed out that the administration led by Governor Marina del Pilar has dominated in the implementation of new technologies that allow for the improvement of administrative systems, in order to make micro and macro measures more efficient. This is why the exchange of experiences has been strengthened regarding practices done by North American organizations in order to contribute to more comprehensive functioning.

In addition, the director of the State Commission of Public Utilities of Ensenada (CESPE), Alonso Centeno Hernández, stated that more than 537 million pesos will be allocated to improve wastewater sanitation plants through the Green Bond, which will contribute to address this lag by covering 14%, in order to bring water to all homes.

The official said that processes to restore and build desalinization, purification, and wastewater sanitation plants have been launched, which will take place during this current administration. She invited the private sector to join forces on this issue that is very relevant for the neighboring states of Baja California and California.

Lastly, Governor Marina del Pilar emphasized that water must be for everyone as it is a public resource, which is why her administration is currently working to guarantee this service in each of the seven municipalities, achieving important progress in municipalities such as Tijuana and Ensenada, where coverage has been strengthened.
