The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, informed that thanks to the collaboration between different institutions of the three levels of government, crime rates have decreased in most of the municipalities of the region. In some cases, this reduction has been over 60%. These positive results were shared during a meeting of the Coordination Council regarding Security Matters, which took place in Tijuana’s Second Military Zone facilities.

The state official added that Tijuana is a dynamic city, which is why, in accordance with all of the members of the Coordination Council regarding Security Matters, the strategy will be strengthened to handle different areas of this municipality; places that have been analyzed as having a greater crime rate.

“One must remember that Baja California has seven municipalities and in six of them, lower crime rate percentages are quite high, above 60% and 70%,” Marina del Pilar said in front of representatives of media outlets.

Marina del Pilar emphasized that the creation in the current administration of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCBC) has given positive results, as it has achieved a significant reduction in high-impact crimes that are committed in six of the seven municipalities, which is why Tijuana will continue to intensify the work carried out.

“There are always challenges in security and justice matters, which is why the proper authorities are making an important effort; there have been achievements, and of course, there are also challenges regarding this matter", the governor stated accompanied by the head of SSCBC, general Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán.

Marina del Pilar reaffirmed her commitment in providing security to Tijuana native families, through the strategic actions of the Secretariat of National Defense, Secretariat of the Navy, the National Guard, municipal police departments, the State Forces of Citizen Security, the State’s Prosecutor Agency, and Mexico’s Prosecutor Agency.
