The Federal Commission for the Protection of Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) revealed that, after testing, 286 of 289 beaches in Mexico are suitable for recreational use.

This study was carried out before the Holy Week vacation period and its goal is to protect the health of the population and warn them of the use of tourist spaces.

After analyzing 2,512 samples of seawater, they determined that the beaches in Baja California, specifically in Playas de Tijuana and Rosarito have exceeded the established limits of enterococci. Currently, state authorities are working to neutralize these conditions.

Four weeks have passed since accesses to the beach have been restricted, as personnel from the National Guard is safeguarding these coasts. Currently, the Secretariat of the Environment of Baja California is constantly testing samples to determine when they can be used.

To determine if a beach is suitable, guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO) are followed as well as the operation surveillance manual regarding recreational use of seawater.

With beaches free of sanitary risks, national and international tourism is also boosted, which benefits the economy of Mexico.
