Access road to Playas de Tijuana is closed due to collapse caused by rain

This collapse occurred a few meters away from the border line

The Civil Protection State Agency of Baja California (CEPCBC) along with the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana are currently working on a collapse located in the northern side of Cañón del Matadero which gives access to Playas de Tijuana, in order to protect citizens.

With instructions by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and the Secretary of the Interior, supervision and assistance work was carried out in the area in order to prevent risky situations.

Due to these works, the access road to Playas de Tijuana was blocked to allow for projects in order to prevent new collapses. This work will be carried out alongside the municipal administration and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT).

The head of CEPBC, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, pointed out that US Customs and Border Protection was the agency which warned about the collapse located just a few meters away from the border line; a surveillance drone was used to tour the area.

It should be noted that the collapse blocked the drainage exit of the desander located at Cañón del Matadero. The retro-excavator of the Municipality of Tijuana was used in order to remove the blockage and prevent the accumulation of water in the area.

Currently, specialists from the National Center of Disaster Prevention are coming to Baja California in order to form a technical group to create solutions for this collapse, alongside experts from the area.

The state official pointed out that dialogue will continue with municipal and federal authorities to remove runoffs and create a definitive solution to this situation, in order to protect all people.
