In order to support women in Baja California and promote an inclusive state in the workspace, Governor Marina del Pilar issued a decree that exempts all women who finished the Mujeres al Volante program from paying their driver’s license. This program was made by the Secretariat of Work and Social Welfare (STPS) and National Services of Employment (SNE) where they were trained to operate public transportation vehicle units.
The state governor highlighted that the commitment of her administration is to make women economically independent and to improve their quality of life, which is why the decree will apply to all women who have completed this course successfully. This represents great aid for them, so that they can get a job with a good salary and help their families.
For his part, the Secretary of Work and Social Welfare of Baja California, Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, explained that this executive decree specifies that those who finished this program are 100% exempt from paying the fee established in Article 10, First Fraction, Section A Number 7 of the Law of Revenue of the State of Baja California, for the 2023 fiscal year, especially when it comes to issuing a Type B Driver’s License for the first time.
In addition, the Director of National Services of Employment, Blanca Patricia Ríos López, highlighted the boost that the “Mujeres al Volante” program has given to the state government through STPS, the Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS), the Center of Training for Industrial Work (CECATI) 84, and transportation company SETTEPI, who made its vehicle units available so that women can be trained.
It should be noted that “Mujeres al Volante” is a pilot program that began in Mexicali in 2022, and this year the first generation of women drivers will begin, as they participated in a comprehensive theorical training so that they could be incorporated into the productive sector of the state, improving considerably their ability to earn income and contribute to society.
