For almost three years, the pedestrian port of entry El Chaparral was closed. This began as a measure to decrease crossings after the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in the region. However, this port of entry has recently opened its gates once more.

Though it is operating normally, there is some confusion among port of entry monitoring groups such as “Cómo está línea”, who are wondering at what time is this port of entry open.

It should be noted that, so far, it is not open for 24 hours as it used to be before it closed. The hours for this port of entry, as it was announced on January 9 when its reopening took place, are from 6 AM to 2 PM, every day.

However, it has been said that this is temporary and that they are preparing to open with the times they had before the pandemic.

In addition, this port of entry took a while to reopen for several reasons: first, its surroundings became a base camp for South American immigrants that arrived alongside the pandemic. Then, the entry was used by Ukrainian immigrants fleeing from war.

Currently, it is operating normally and it has been reported that it tends to be quite empty, though this depends on the day and the time.
