Current music videos are usually made mostly with Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) and green screens. A few years ago, locations were the foundation of every video, as the artists looked for the ideal areas to film in several cities. It is well known that Tijuana has been the stage for several music videos. However, not everyone knows that Beyonce and Jay-Z also used the streets of Tijuana for one of their productions.

In the music video for the song '03 Bonnie & Clyde by Jay-Z featuring Beyoncé, which debuted in 2022, one can see the rapper’s typical inspirations and his street style. Something interesting to note is that most of this video’s shots were filmed in Tijuana.

Throughout the video, one can see the murals and streets of Colonia Río Parte Baja. This video was filmed in August 2022 and among the shots one can see in the background the Transpeninsular Highway of Boulevard Cuauhtémoc Norte which goes all the way to Tijuana International Airport. In another scene, one can see a mural and the area’s local businesses. We’ll show you right now a comparison of the area when this was filmed and from a few years ago where one can see what is left of this mural. In addition, one can also see a discount shop called “Monchichi".

This scene was filmed in what is popularly known as the streets that eventually go to Colonia La Postal.

The next pictures show Avenida Carlota Sosa and Silvia de Maldonado, where most of this music video was filmed and where one can see the mural that was used. One can also see the businesses that were still open in 2002 and people watching the filming of the video from a distance.

Thise song is the first music collaboration by Jay-Z and it is a twist on the classic by 2Pac “Me And My Girlfriend”. This is noted during the video as one can see a mural with the singer’s face and the phrase “Tupac Rifa Siempre”, which was right next to one of the main film sets on Avenida Carlota Sosa and Silvia de Maldonado.

It should be noted that the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, Kareem “Biggs” Burke realized with this song that Jay-Z had fallen in love with Beyonce.

Graffiti artwork at the “Monchichi” store can be found on a street art website, thanks to which one is able to identify that the mural of renowned rapper 2Pac is located next to one of the locations where this video was filmed.
