Gas in San Diego is cheaper than in Tijuana for the first time in months

Gas in San Diego costs 26 cents less than in Tijuana

In the last few months, gas stations in Tijuana have had many American clients, who have preferred to cross to our border city to fill their tanks because prices in San Diego were very high.

We were even able to witness gas stations launching advertising campaigns focused on this target market with banners that read: “To save money, fill your tank before crossing” or “cheaper than in San Diego”.

However, this streak of good luck is over as there are some areas in San Diego where gas is cheaper than in Tijuana. In Tijuana, gas prices are currently $20.87 pesos per liter, which means a gallon of gas costs $4.17 dollars ($78.26 pesos).

However, in San Diego, especially in Escondido, Gas Buddy is selling gas at $3.91 (USD) per gallon, which means that, according to the $18.78 exchange rate, a gallon of gas costs $73.42 pesos. This means that in San Diego, gas is 26 cents ($4.84 pesos) cheaper than in Tijuana.

This hadn’t happened in several months. In fact, it was in February 2022 when gas prices increased in the United States, while they remained at 20 to 21 pesos per liter in Tijuana.

This can be convenient for people that, for whatever reason, cross to San Diego. However, if you are going to cross only to get cheaper gas prices, it may not be very helpful, due to the long waiting times at the ports of entry.

It should be noted that the maximum gas price in Tijuana is $22.99 pesos, while the minimum is at $18.34 pesos. This all depends on which gas stations you go to. If you wish to learn more about this, click here: GasolinaMx.
