Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, met with the general director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto, in order to move forward with joint projects regarding health matters. They toured the area where a new hospital will be built for the people of Ensenada and also visited the rural hospital of San Quintin, which is part of the IMSS-Bienestar program.
During the 60th edition of Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar, the governor highlighted the permanent commitment of the government of Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with Baja Californian society and their main needs, such as dignified and high-quality healthcare.
In her message to Baja Californian society, Marina del Pilar welcomed Robledo Aburto and spoke about the main actions that are being taken together with the federation regarding health matters.
Governor Marina del Pilar highlighted the announcement of a new general hospital in eastern Tijuana, as well as the new medical unit at Fraccionamiento Villas del Prado in collaboration with the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (SEDATU) and Tijuana municipal authorities.
“Following the example of our president Andrés Manuel López Obrador we are convinced that health is not a privilege, but a right for everyone,” she said.
The governor listed actions such as the launch of the mobile health units program that reaches all of the state’s communities, the installation of an oncological center in Tijuana, the Code Red Heart Attack operation that provides care for people with acute coronary disease, the promotion of organ transplants, fight and prevention of addictions, free cataract surgery programs for seniors, and the strengthening of the COVID-19 vaccine, among others.
“These are some of the daily actions we have carried out in the state government. They are the way of making a reality the commitment my administration has to create a public health system that provides quality and warm care for all Baja Californians,” the governor of Baja California said.
For his part, Director Robledo Aburto spoke about the main activities being carried out by IMSS Baja California in order to benefit 2,4 million beneficiaries, being one of the states with the highest number of beneficiaries as it treats more than 64% of the population.
The federal official emphasized the strategies carried out to achieve a greater efficiency in healthcare assistance at IMSS medical units in Baja California in order to reach more people.
He emphasized that the project with the most impact by IMSS in Baja California for 2023 is the construction of a new regional hospital in Ensenada, which represents great progress for healthcare in southern Baja California which had been historically ignored by previous governments.
In addition, he highlighted the installation of the lineal accelerator to provide oncological patients with care at Regional Hospital Number 20, which has made great difference in the medical procedures taking place statewide.
